I remember another time in my life where I experienced some sleepless nights. It was Frankie's first year. He was exhausting. He hated his crib. He hated being put down.
The result? I watched a lot of cheesy movies on cable with Frankie in my arms, lol.
One I remember clearly was "They Live!" It starred Rowdy Roddy Piper. My brother Frank had to explain the wrestling angle.
Anyway, the premise was this - Nada, a down-on-his-luck construction worker, discovers a pair of special sunglasses. Wearing them, he is able to see the world as it really is: people being bombarded by media and government with messages like "Stay Asleep", "No Imagination", "Submit to Authority". Even scarier is that he is able to see that some usually normal-looking people are in fact ugly aliens in charge of the massive campaign to keep humans subdued.
The special sunglasses popped up the other day because I was looking at LT Nixon's banner. I thought "This is how I feel about Obama! Why don't more people see Jimmy Carter when he is talking?" So I asked The Armorer to help me out....and he did! Thanks!
See kids, I'm afraid. I remember the Carter Administration. My ex and I bought this house in July of '82. John qualified for a VA mortgage and at 16% or 17% (steroids. brain.eating.) people raved about how lucky we were. Isn't there anyone else out there who remembers this shit? Can I get a "stagflation!"???? How about someone who remembers the "misery index"? Or another oldie but a goodie......"malaise"
My moaning about Jimmy Carter aside, "They Live!" wasn't a bad movie and it had a great line.
"I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick ass, and I'm all out of bubble gum"
