In 1945, U.S. President Harry Truman officially declared V-E Day, the end of World War II in Europe. At the White House fence, a sailor and his daughter read an account of the war's end. Behind them the president's flag remains at half-staff in honor of those fallen. 5/8/1945

Thanks for keeping me up with this day in history... If you subscribed to Smithsonian or Nat. Geographic, you would know this is the 400th anniversary of Jamestown.
