071215-N-3659B-065 PACIFIC (Dec. 15, 2007) Medical personnel aboard the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) transfer a patient from an HH-60H Seahawk from Helicopter Anti-Submarine Warfare Squadron Four (HS) 4 following an emergency medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) at sea. The crew of Ronald Reagan and HS-4 helped MEDEVAC a 14-year old Illinois girl who had suffered from a ruptured appendix while vacationing aboard the Dawn Princess cruise ship off the coast of Baja, California. Upon arrival to the ship, the ship's surgeon conducted an emergency appendectomy and the patient is resting comfortably aboard Ronald Reagan. I just read this on my local news website (wtop.com). My first thought was that this is a girl who's going to become like you and me - with never-ending crushes on hunky military men! Talk about being rescued from a tall tower .. whew!
I had my appendix rupture many years ago. That is one very lucky young lady...in more ways than one!! *grin*
Good stuff, Maggie! Thanks for posting these photos. Love these kinds of stories! There are so many like them. In 1991 Mount Pinatubo, on the island of Luzon, in the Philippines, let go in what was the largest volcanic eruption since Krakatau in 1883. USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) and battle group evacuated thousands of people from the area and their families to the central Philippines island of Cebu. And the US Navy was off the coast of Indonesia after the tsunami of 2003.
PIA - "...this is a girl who's going to become like you and me"
LOL, I am sure her parents are looking forward to that!!
SK - Very lucky!
PRB - Thanks again for the linky love and the emails.
