Here is the entry that caught my eye.
Hollywood websites are reporting that the HBO miniseries adaptation of David McCullough's John Adams biography will star Oscar nominee Paul Giamatti.
That's good casting. Giamatti could easily be made to look like Adams, and he's got the eager little popping explosivity that comes through the lawyer's diaries. Back in college, I had the pleasure of seeing Giamatti in several undergraduate plays; I particularly remember a production of Ionesco's Rhinoceros. He was great.

I have read this book through. Twice. Then I read Founding Mothers and then, Martha Washington. When all three are laid one over the other, I decided that I should have like to have know those FOunders...they were a HOOT.
I completely agree that I would have liked to have known them....but life before M&Ms and indoor plumbing? No thank you.
The farm house I grew up in (east of Albany, not too far from the NY/MA/VT border) still had an outhouse when my parents bought the place in the early 60's...and it was on a dirt road.
When I was little and we would go away for the summer, there was no shower or bath. At least not until I was 10 or 12. There was a tub that would be hauled into the kitchen.
As a result, I have no desire to camp or "rough it". I beef when in a hotel that doesn't have 24 hour room service!
I know my own limitations and I could not have survived during Revolutionary times.
