What Does It Mean When....

....a man meets you....say a Marine....and says you're fabulous...but then.....proceeds to try to change you?

I explained about the picture on the blog. Story here. And that it was the only time I have ever shot anything and I missed and I am completely disinterested in trying it again. Well my new Marine says that I just don't know yet how much I love shooting. Once he trains me to hit the target, I will want nothing more than to shoot things. One of the biggest laughs of the day was when asserted with a straight face that when he was finished with this magical training....I would choose shooting over a spa!!!!

It's good to have lofty ambitions.

Next we were discussing books. He mentioned something about a series of books on the Civil War. I explained that was my weakness in American History. Probably because I am not interested. Well he said....start with (fill-in-the-book-title).

Again I laughed.

This is when I said "I thought you were happy to meet me and I was fabulous?" "You are!" he replied. "Then why are you working on changing me?"

Really! Doesn't everyone know Princess Crabby can't be improved on?

For the record, I was tardy. However, my half of this deal was well run. Lunch was close to the ship, very nice view, good food. I wore my favorite sandals, but had my Keds, a sweater and a hari clip in the car, so I was ....PREPARED.

His part? We drove over to the USS Salem.....and it was closed. He apologized and I laughed. I told him it was fine because it wasn't my fault.

In all seriousness.....I had a great time.

I like how you pointed out that you were late as if there were times you're not.

ROFLMAO! Hey! I am almost always on time for Mass.

Anonymous said...

The key word being ALMOST.

BostonMaggie said...

The point, dear Anonymous, being if you are important enough, I put in an extra effort.

So I, your marine, and sometimes preists don't make the cut, eh?

I am unsure how to read
"I, your Marine and some priests..."

Are you my Marine or you are someone else that I have been less than punctual with?

If you are my Marine -
You were most certainly worth the effort. However, effort expended is not always directly reflected in my success rate.

I read the directions online and printed out a set from the restaurant's website. The girls in work will vouch for the fact that I left in plenty of time. However, I have not been in that area of Quincy in 20 years and even then, I was never the driver. And the directions from the restaurant did not take into account a construction detour. I was put back on track by a helpful Weymouth policeman working a detail.

So short of having made a dry run the day before I could not have shortened my drive time. Although that wouldn't have been possible because as of the day before, we were going to a different restaurant.

Additionally, you have little room to snark since while it's true that I was 10 minutes least the restaurant was open.....
On the bright side of getting lost on the way, I found the Naval Reserve Support Center and after my rendezvous with my Marine, I popped in. I hav e to post about that later.
If Anonymous is not my Marine, but someone else I have been tardy meeting -

My apologies, but if I don't know who you are - I don't know if my being late was happenstance or a reflection on the effort meeting you merited.

And Anonymous, one more question -
What are you doing up at 0300?

Anonymous said...

Insomnia, Babycakes.

BostonMaggie said...

You are confusing me with all your other women.....

I am Chickie-chickie

Anonymous said...

I confuse nothing. I am the epitome of clear thinking, much like yourself. I call everyone Babycakes. That way I don't have to remember names. Got that, Chickie-Chickie?

BostonMaggie said...

No problem, baby!

You realize, of course, that your Marine is NOT anonymous?

And you have yet to discover your inner sight alignment and trigger pull.

Admit it.

BostonMaggie said...

I have no "inner sight" or "insight" even. I just wander through life "lalalala" and wait for Sailors to invite me on ships.

Stay away from the 5" gun mounts.

BostonMaggie said...

Do you imagine, even for a moment that they are not in far more danger than I????

Seriously, I may not know the proper terminology and I may mix-up the elevation and the other thing......

but you

were always

in more danger

than I.....

I feel this conversation has taken a seedy turn.

Of course you are fabulous... What does it mean? it's this simple:

by Dorothy Parker

In youth, it was a way I had
To do my best to please,
And change, with every passing lad,
   To suit his theories.

But now I know the things I know,
   And do the things I do;
And if you do not like me so,
To hell, my love, with you!

Ten minutes late?

That must have been an "airline ten minutes". As in "we will be on the ground for another ten minutes".

Which was of course, between 1200R and 1235R.

Baby! I am wounded.....cut to the quick!

Stella - That was lovely, thank you.
