Rep. Sam Johnson

You need to go over to OPFOR and watch the clip of Rep. Sam Johnson, Texas. He is who we should be listening to, not Murtha. Johnson was a POW, one of those released on Febraury 12, 1973. What he has to say on supporting the troops is very important.

Thanks, John.

Sam Johnson's remarks are so clear and a common sense application for the times. It's simple patriotism without the jingoism that aliienates so many. What a contrast to the fulminating smoke, sparks and dust that spews from Murtha.
Reviewing Johnson remarks, I was drawn back to Barry Goldwater's acceptance speech. When he employed the phrase, "Extremism in the defense of libery is no vice. And moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue."
What is interesting, as the terms are always related to 'hawks' and other 'snake-eaters', it was drawn from, of all people, a Quaker, Thomas Paine. "Moderation in temper is always a virtue; but moderation in principle is always a vice." Clearly, Murtha's need to be angry is no virtue and Johnson's option to be clear and simply patriotic is no vice.

Considering that the lone star state sent a few home grown terrorists out into the world recently, the least we could do is send someone like Rep. Johnson to Washington. Same goes for Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison.
(And there's that other guy in the big white house...)

Of vice and virtue we can alway make reference as guidelines. I'd be hard pressed to claim rigidity to the latter nor claim that I've succededed in avoiding the other. But when I sense the merit in someone's expression, like Sam Johnson's, given the times, I appreciate the mood.

Angel - Even a Bostonian such as myself must give credit where credit is due.....currently the Congressional delegation leaves the the Massachusetts delegation in the dust when it comes to courage and moral fortitude.

Shawmut - You know I am teasing you, right?

I would hope so. As I suggested in another frame; I'm a bit short of piety myself. But not so thin-skinned that I don't recognize how my appreciations may sound.
Masschusetts' delegation to Congress might just as well be representing Outer Space; a vacuum unto themselves.

Showmut - Do you ever go to the TownHall meet-ups? Or the local blogger meetings?
