It's Nuclear not New-Q-La
Yes the nickname is Nuke. Yes. But you wouldn't call my son Frank, Frank-sis. It's Francis.
Work with me here people. I am trying to listen to your opinions, but once you say "New-Q-La" all I hear is "hee-haw, n'yuck, n'yuck".

Given that I am nuclear trained, I find this commentary on how to pronounce the word highly amusing!
I never had any problem with how anyone pronounced it....which is odd, since I usually have lots of problems with how people suddenly decide to mispronounce common words in an attempt to sound erudite ("harass" comes to mind...)
Nuclear? Might want to find out how the nuclear trained folks pronounce it....
Perfect. Diction lessons by someone from Charlestown.
Teach us how to say "Peabody" and "Dracut". :)
I don't think it's necessary to check with someone who is trained in the use of nuclear material anymore than I would ask a gas station attendant how to pronounce "petroleum".
Do those who mispronounce "nuclear" also have "New-Q-Lar" families as well?
The only difference "HAR-ess" and "ha-rass", is which side of the Pond your on. No one's adding letters or sounds to the word. On the other hand, there is no middle vowel sound between the "c" and the "l" to emphasize in Nuclear.
MM - Everyone knows the difference between Pee-B'dee the town & Mr. Pee-body on Rocky & Bullwinkle.
Maggie, I know this is off topic, but it's a good read:
