We Have Met The Enemy........

and they are ours....."
Today in Navy history - September 10th
1813 - In Battle of Lake Erie, Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry, flying his "Don't give up the ship" flag, defeats British squadron and says: "We have met the enemy and they are ours..."
Another famous phrase that people know only part of. It's like "Live Free or Die". The actual message to Harrison was"

"Dear Gen'l: We have met the enemy, and they are ours, two ships, two brigs, one schooner and one sloop. Yours with great respect and esteem. H. Perry."
