Of course, Maggie, it's politics. An honest politician is an oxymoron: you just have to select the least evil.
This comment in your link amuses me: "One thing going for Biden is he would fill the role of attack dog admirably. He genuinely enjoys cutting people up, true or not. His performances in the Judiciary show that." Well, good. Biden's tough and respectful, an example of which was clearly evident during the Hill-Thomas trial. My Congressman is known as the House Bulldog. I think that's a compliment.
His son will be deployed to Iraq on 10/3. Biden stated: I don't want him going... But I don't want my grandsons or granddaughters going back in 15 years. So how we leave makes a big difference."
I don't underestimate Biden. He and Bush engaged in plagiarism and academic dismissiveness in college, respectively. I think his error may become a non issue, given the "president's" C- average. I agree with you that Romney will get the VP GOP nod. I'm salivating over that debate.
A conservative blog, notes: "Can't wait to see the dearth of video that is going to come out with Biden saying something stupid, ignorant or arrogant." We've been subjected to ignorance and arrogance for the last eight years:
MS. MORNIN: That's good, because I work three jobs and I feel like I contribute. THE PRESIDENT: You work three jobs? MS. MORNIN: Three jobs, yes. THE PRESIDENT: Uniquely American, isn't it? I mean, that is fantastic that you're doing that. (Applause.) Get any sleep? (Laughter.) [That's arrogant.]
We may disagree politically, but you've got one of the smartest blogs I've read: no knee-jerk reactions, but well-researched perspectives that always make me re-think my perspectives. And, yes, I mean what I write. So, I comment here hoping to return the favor.
The run for the White House: Let the games begin! As always, best wishes.
I just want to tie up a couple of loose ends Stella left dangling:
1) I don't know what she is referring to when she implies something about Biden's "academic dismissiveness in college" in view of the fact that he completed a law degree at Syracuse University, three years after graduating from the University of Delaware. 2) That's something that was clearly out of George Bush's reach. And out of John McCain's too, the GOP candidate being a self-confessed C-student. BTW, where did the McCainster get his law degree?
Sorry, Vig. Let me clarify. Note that I wrote "respectively," in that I refer to plagiarism and academic dismissiveness to relate separately to Biden and Bush.
I discuss Biden's plagiarism during his first year of law school. Then, Bush's complete disregard of academics in the same sentence, who got C- average and graduated solely through family and political connections, unlike Biden who worked for his degree.
My intention is to state that if anyone wants to criticize Biden's academic record, they should also consider Bush's. I'm expecting Biden's error to become a conservative pundit point that fails to address Bush's poor grades. The average person who gets a C- average would not be rewarded with an academic degree.
Your comment is not elitism to me, Vig. I apologize for the confusion. I guess blogging breaks during work cause writing errors.

Or. am I being too 'elitist'?
