Is Putin. That idiot Gore is a runner up, which means some people at Time are idiots. General Petraeus is also a runner up which means not everyone at Time is an idiot.
The choice is supposed to recognize
this statement "TIME's Person of the Year is a clear-eyed recognition of the world as it is and of the most powerful individuals and forces shaping that world—for better or for worse the person who had the greatest impact on the world" Again, Gore? I blame the stupid Nobel people for this!
Putin = great, if malevolent impact. He is definitely shaping the world.
Petraeus - positive and profound impact
Gore = irritation - not impact. If Al Gore is impacting your life....you aren't reading Time....you're reading some supermarket tabloid. If you think he is impacting the world what you're feeling is not impact, it's irritation.....I'm sure if you call your doctor he has a pill for that or at least some cream to rub on the chafed parts.
I'm not at all surprised they'd have a Communist as Person of the Year. In their world, Petraeus is only there to keep the "nuts" from howling about Putin. *sigh*
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone even read Time anymore? Geeze.
Sorry, but the only thing Time is good for these days is strategic placement in an outhouse.
ReplyDeleteIn kind of a play on an old commie proverb:

I think it's a poor idea to go from the ones that make positive impact to just an impact. People always focus on the negative and that's all we'll get from now on.
ReplyDeleteOK i can accept Putins person of the year a la their definition. I seem to remember they flagged this last year. Gore is just bloat he's not really that significant. The only big deal is that movie and it's all rehashed stuff which I doubt he worked on anyway.
Teresa & SK - I gave it up a long time ago.
ReplyDeleteSJS - Very interesting
"In TIME there will be no truth - in the truth, there will be no TIME... "
Trias - At least they have a philisophy and they stick with it. Not like that stupid Nobel Peace Prize.
Yeah - it was a play on the old saying of "In truth (Pravda) there is no news (Isvestia) and in the news (Isvestia) there is no truth (Pravda)" something of a holdover from the Brezhnev-era...and appropos with the apparatchiks in charge of Time these past few decades. ;)
