Happy Birthday to the United States Army

Maj. Gen. Elbert N. Perkins, right, commanding general of U.S. Army Japan, and Pvt. Joshua Hardy, the youngest soldier at Camp Zama, cut the first piece of birthday cake according to tradition during the Camp Zama Army Birthday Ball.

In 1775, the Continental Congress established the army as the first U.S. military service and George Washington was named Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army.
Two years later, the Star and Stripes became the national U.S. flag.

  1. Tonight after class, I have to attend a local recruiting event, (don't ask it wasn't my idea), then we will adjourn too the local VFW to toast the Army's Birthday. Sadly I can't celebrate too much as I have a 5 mile run in the morning.

At least the Hail and Farewell is next weekend...

  3. of course I will my wiife will be with me. Besides, I have been tasked with giving the opening prayer. While I personally feel that a healthy quantity of scotch, whiskey, or gin helps one commune with the almighty, I doubt my battalion commander or CSM would agree....(well, maybe the CSM.)

Also, (and shhhhhhhh!) I'm having a birthday cake given to Dana that night. Her birthday is Thursday and we were going to go out to dinner on Saturday but, the Hail and Farewell is a command performance. I'll post pictures on the Milblog from it.

  5. One of my best friends is over tonight and laughed hysterically when he read this. He meets all of your qualifications, he's 45, a former member of the naval service, (former recon marine), presently a NJSP SGT and MI company 1SG in the NJARNG. the problem is that he already married a heartless redhead...
