Bolton Resigns

What a shitty start to the day.

Bush Accepts Bolton's U.N. Resignation

Unable to win Senate confirmation, U.N. Ambassador John Bolton will step down when his temporary appointment expires within weeks, the White House said Monday.
Why?
The White House resubmitted Bolton's nomination last month. But with Democrats capturing control of the next Congress, his chances of winning confirmation appeared slight. The incoming chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Democratic Sen. Joe Biden of Delaware, said he saw "no point in considering Mr. Bolton's nomination again."
Why?
Point to one thing he's done wrong. All the things they said would go wrong, didn't.
Perino said that among Bolton's accomplishments, he assembled coalitions addressing North Korea's nuclear activity, Iran's uranium enrichment and reprocessing work and the horrific violence in Darfur. She said he also made reform at the United Nations a top issue because the United States is searching for a more "credible" and more "effective."

You and I are sharing a brain this morning as I blogged about this as well. If a typical State Dept type is given the ambassadors post it will be like the waving of a white flag IMHO.

Boston Maggie,
Former Salem Witch here. Came to your site through BlackFive. I like what I'm reading, and
will be back again. We're very disappointed that we've lost Bolton. And fear that the replacement will be a spineless globalist.

C'mon over for a spell and introduce yourself!

Crikey I thought you said George Michael for a second there.

I thought Bolton was a positive thing. What a waste. Perhaps he will be able to do some good in another way.

What does it matter George Mitchell or George Michael? The point is that it should be the President's pick.
The part that angers me here about Bolton isn't whether he's good or bad or effective or ineffective. It's the fact that a small part of the legislative branch is subverting powers given to the executive. The Democratic filibuster has succeeded in killing Bolton's nomination. Their reasons are immaterial. The basic fact is that they are going against the Constitution
