Bomb Squad Officer Jeremiah Hurley. He had just turned 50 that year. The bomb that killed him also maimed his Bomb Squad partner, Francis Foley, who has since retired on a disability retirement.
Compounding that double tragedy was the prosecution and conviction of two innocent men, Alfred W. Trenkler and Thomas A. Shay, for procuring dynamite and allegedly building and placing the bomb. As is made clear in the book, "Perfectly Innocent", which is posted on the website, www.alfredtrenklerinnocent.org, neither man had any role with the bomb whatsoever.
Although the Courts recently upheld Alfred's sentence, those rulings had nothing to do with his claim of wrongful conviction, and his habeas corpus motion in support of that claim is now before Judge Rya Zobel of the U.S. District Court.
Recently, two of the jurors in Trenkler's case have written to Judge Zobel to say that they now believe they made a mistake in voting to convict Trenkler at his 1993 trial. They asked for the Judge to help obtain true justice in this case.
Supporters of the innocence of Trenkler and Shay have been asking the Boston Police Dept, the ATF and the U.S. Attorney's office to begin a preliminary reinvestigation of the case. With a few inquiries to a few people, and the checking of a few documents, it can be shown that the case against Shay and Trenkler was built upon misunderstandings and a few lies. See www.alfredtrenklerinnocent.org.
The manuscript of the book, "Perfectly Innocent" has been available for over a year and been posted online and been sent to the investigative agencies, but no one has yet challenged the facts presented in that book.morrisonbonpassehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08303416990891364965noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10193821.post-86744097205600902012008-10-28T06:52:00.000-05:002008-10-28T06:52:00.000-05:00Two men were convicted for his death.
